The ORION project aims to stimulate transformational changes in Shetland and the way power is generated. Shetland will become a world leading clean energy hub which will benefit the people who live in the isles by providing affordable fuel, excellent training opportunities and hundreds of highly skilled jobs and supply chain opportunities.
ORION’s goals and aims align with those of SIC. The council has outlined its ambitions for 2021-2026 some of which ORION seeks to address. ORION also aligns with the Shetland Partnership Plan’s target outcome that, “All areas of Shetland will be benefitting from a more resilient low carbon economy underpinned by a culture of innovation, inclusion and skills development.”
